This morning I headed into Safeway to take advantage of a couple totally awesome Airmiles earning options, especially so when combined with super awesome coupons!
Bought: 2x Purex Toilet Paper (on sale for $5.99) less $1 off coupon (only had one.. sure wish I’d had more!)…. total cost $10.98, received 40 bonus airmiles. Airmile to dollar ratio: $0.27. 22c a roll for toilet paper while not an absolutely amazing deal, is pretty decent, and the airmiles sweeten the deal [on a side note - yes I do have a scale that I adhere to when purchasing toilet paper – lol – ranging from buy the bare minimum to Start to Car! (ala the Ikea commercials)]
Bought 5x Kellogg’s Rice Krispies @ 2.50 each minus 2x $2 off coupons (kicking myself for not having more of these - lol)…. total cost $8.50, received 60 bonus airmiles. Airmile to dollar ratio: $0.14 <---- amazing deal!
If I get motivated this week I might swing by and pick up the Eggo Waffles on for $2 each. Less $1 off coupon. So 6 x $2=12-6 (in coupons)=$6, and 60 airmiles. Airmile to dollar ratio: $0.10 <----- which is the best I’ve ever seen!
All in all an awesome day shopping. Saved $5 in coupons, and got 100 airmiles for $20.92 after taxes (airmiles to dollar ratio: $0.21).
So what do I do with all those airmiles anyway?
A lot of people out there feel that redeeming valuable Airmiles for gift cards is a waste of hard earned miles. And while it is definitely clearly getting more bang for your mile when redeeming for free flights, for a single parent with 2 little girls the massive amount of airmiles I’d need to fly us anywhere is astronomical. So I redeem for giftcards.
The card du jour is Chapters.ca. 365 airmiles gets you a $50 giftcard. I have 2 saved up, plus a $5 giftcard from a survey I did. In addition to the $104 currently saved up I also redeemed for a $50 giftcard for Malie’s birthday presents in May. Hooray!
So I currently have $105 in Chapters giftcards, with my eyes on 2 big ticket items for the girls, and then quite a few smaller items for stocking stuffers on *my* wishlist as well. Hoping for at least one more $25 giftcard, or ideally a $50 to make a truly special Christmas morning for the girls.
I also have $35 in amazon.ca giftcards saved up through Swagbucks.com which will go towards books for the girls as I always try to fill out their stockings with reading materials.
